Most cable locks have a core cut in strands of strong metal alloys that allow them to resist bolt cutters while remaining perfectly flexible. Not the Tex-Lock, which sports a multi-layer all-textile construction, enabling it to be lighter than comparably-sized cables.

We know, textiles aren’t supposed to withstand deadly blades and sharp bolt cutters. Not the one used here, which boasts a strength comparable to steel, allowing it to secure your bike just as capably as any cable lock.

Because of its all-textile construction, the Tex-Lock looks and behaves more like a length of rope than a bike-securing cable lock, allowing you to tie it around fixtures with the same flexibility as a rope, all while bundling up and squeezing into a pouch on your bag. It’s lightweight, too, weighing just 0.8 pounds per 3.3 feet, so you can carry it without adding much heft to your stash. Unlike rope, however, the darn thing can resist cutting and sawing while keeping out both water and fire, ensuring it will keep your bike as secure as any reliable cable lock.

Instead of integrated locks, the rope comes with eyelets on each end, which you secure together using a bundled mini U-lock. Features include a magnetic saddle mount that you can use to attach the cable to your bike while riding, three rope lengths (32-, 47-, and 70-inches), and four color options.

A Kickstarter campaign is currently running for the Tex-Lock. Pledges to reserve a unit starts at €89.
