It looks like a cordless phone from the 1990s. Or an éclair-shaped remote. Whatever image the Love Turntable conjures in your mind, we’re sure about one thing: you’ve never seen a record player like this before.

Designed by Yves Behar, it’s a uniquely-designed turntable that bridges the gap between old record players and modern audio devices, allowing you to enjoy vinyl in a different way than the folks back in 1954. That’s right, this thing pair the warm qualities of analog sound with the convenience of modern tech, allowing you to experience a well-loved record collection like never before.

The Love Turntable consists of two parts: a disc-shaped base that serves as the platter and the éclair-shaped unit that attaches to the center of the rig. It comes with two of those record bases, both of which are compatible with the detachable unit, so you can cue up the next record before the current one is finished. The detachable unit, by the way, contains the stylus and all the actual hardware that allows it to transmit the analog vinyl audio to digital systems like a pair of wireless headphones or multi-room speakers.

It pairs the compact size with a rechargeable battery, so you can dump it in a bag for enjoying records on the go. There’s also a companion app that allows you to play, pause, skip tracks, and adjust volume similar to modern music players – something we haven’t seen any other turntable actually do.

No pricing yet, but the Love Turntable is slated to come out later in the year.
