Those pullup bars that install on door frames are great for use at home, since they’re small enough to hide in the closet whenever they’re not in use. Problem is, they’re still unwieldy for carrying during travel and that holds true even for the collapsible variants we’ve seen some time back. The Jayflex CrossGrips offer a more portable alternative.

Like pullup bars, the equipment installs at the top of the door frame, giving you an instant spot to perform pullups and chin-ups. Unlike them, the darn thing can collapse into a really compact rig that can fit inside the large exterior pouch of many backpacks, making it easy to bring with you when traveling.

The Jayflex CrossGrips consists of two handles that fold completely flat when not in use, allowing you to keep them in the nightstand drawer at home. Unfold it to equip the clamp and handles, the former for securing it on the door frame and the latter for performing your exercises. An internal spring clamp adjusts the clamp’s opening to the door frame, allowing it to securely latch onto it, regardless of the thickness, while slots on the tube allow for multiple locked positions, ensuring this can affix tightly to every door frame imaginable. Do note, this was designed to work with all door frames with depth between 4.5 to 7.5 inches and a height of between 2 to 4 inches, which should cover everything but the most unconventional builds. Since the spring clamp handles most of the work, installing it on a door frame is dead easy, allowing you to secure both clamps in place in under 15 seconds.

When installed on a door frame, the equipment allows you to do standard pullup bar exercises, including pullups, chin-ups, leg raises, muscle-ups, and others. Aside from those, you can also set it down on the ground for performing dips, as well as added leverage for push-ups. When installed on a door frame, the handles can also be used to anchor a standard pair of suspension straps, allowing you to perform dozens of exercises without having to close the door.

Because the Jayflex CrossGrips are made from two separate handles, you can position them at any distance you want, allowing you to quickly add subtle variations to your exercises. All the sections touching the door frame, by the way, are made with a padded and textured material, so it will neither slip while clamped on nor leave any marks on the door frame.

Dimensions are 7.5 x 7.5 x 7 inches (width x height x depth) when equipped, while collapsing down to 10 x 7 x 3 inches for portability. Construction is steel for the frame and powder-coated steel for the handles, ensuring this has the necessary durability to hold up to rough use. According to the outfit, this build will allow it to support weights of up to 300 pounds.

A Kickstarter campaign is currently running for the Jayflex CrossGrips. You can reserve a unit for pledges starting at $95.
